My Experience with Essence Mono Eyeshadow – Love That Grey:
Today’s pick is a grey eyeshadow, somehow I have always stayed away from grey eye shadows, feeling that they don’t go great for Indian skin tones, and have always stuck to golds, but then a grey smokey eye looks great, and there are many possible ways to experiment with it. So, I finally went ahead with this one. These eyeshadows come in different finishes ranging from matte, shimmer, metallic and sparkling; this particular shade belongs to the shimmer effect. The color is a perfect grey, not something leaning towards blue or something, because many grey colors are blue based. I am not a huge fan of shimmer eye shadows, as I always feel that they are way too shimmery and give hardly any color payoff. Thankfully, this one is not like that, so I am happy. It comes of more as a metallic finish.
It is very smooth in the pan, even when swiped with finger. When I tried using it the first time, I swiped with my fingers, and there was no color payoff, nor any fallout, it felt very smooth but was not very soft, and slightly hard. But surprisingly, it worked very well with a brush, and once the top layer comes off, the shadow beneath is quite pigmented. I like how there is not much fallout, I have a few Faces eyeshadows and there is a hell lot of fallout in the pan itself. This color will look excellent on fair skin tones, and also looks great on medium skin tones, but I think it would look slightly ashy on dusky beauties.
The eyeshadow brush picks up the right amount to give a good color payoff, but to get the best color payoff, a good eyeshadow base is necessary. These are not MAC eyeshadows, so we cannot expect much, but given a good eyeshadow base, it makes a world of a difference, and that way it performs quite well. For the price it comes at, it works quite well. It blends out quite easily, and stays on with a primer for a good 7 hours on my oily lids. If you have normal eyelids, then it will easily stay for long. This is not one of Essence’s best eyeshadows , the quality is definitely not consistent. In the swatches , I have used a primer underneath on the left side, while the right one is bare.
